Devotional from Rosa Vasquez
Worship
1 Chronicles 23:30 – And they (Levites) were to stand every morning thanking and praising the Lord and likewise at evening.
David assigned 4000 Levites to praise the Lord with instruments. We’re talking all day worship! Here’s such a great example of what it looks like to glorify the Savior.
But I think this is where we get it wrong. Our definition of worship can easily get distorted. Tony Evans describes worship as (and I’m paraphrasing) a constant pursuit of intimate relationship. And while shouting for joy and singing the glories of His name (Psalm 66:1) is a beautiful expression of worship, hitting the right note in perfect time is not worship. It’s a heart matter. It’s an encounter that leads us to understand His greatness, His goodness and allows our adoration to flow freely.
One of my favorite songs, The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman, touches on this so beautifully. “When the music fades and all is stripped away and I simply come. Longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless Your heart. I’ll bring You more than a song for a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear. You’re looking into my heart.”
My prayer for us is that we would come fully surrendered, obedient, full of adoration, with all of our insecurities, gratitude, fears, praise, admiration and reverence at the altar.
John 4:23 – But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers.
