Self-Sufficiency: The Barrier of Desperation
James 4:1-10
If we are not intentional, self-sufficiency will be our default mode when it
comes to following Jesus. I have to battle my natural tendency to trust in myself.
Rather than having our first and most meaningful step toward seeking God’s
help, we tend to look to ourselves.
In this passage, James cautions that the entire system in which we live is
characterized by self-oriented, self-trusting living. Self-sufficiency is a belief
problem. It places our trust and hope in ourselves and not in God’s ability to give
us the grace needed. We need to embrace a God-trusting mindset, as we trust the
promise of God to give us more grace – 2 Corinthians 12:9; 1 Peter 5:10; 2
Corinthians 9:8.
GEMS Father/Daughter Dance: We are inviting all Crossroads girls ages K-6th, and their dad (or date of their choice) to the GEMS Father Daughter Dance on Wednesday, January 29th. Join us from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm for an evening of fun and fellowship. We hope to see you there!! For questions, reach out to Genny Wilkerson at 918.408.7216.
Winter Family Event: Come join us for a fun-filled afternoon as we celebrate the silly holiday of Opposite Day. Dress mismatched if you want and join us for some fun games and snacks up in Brickhouse on January 25th from 2-4 pm.
Operation Christmas Child Craft Party: If you are ready to start collecting and filling your shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child 2025, we will host some events throughout the year to help you create quality items and learn more about packing your shoebox. Our first event is a craft party on Feb. 15 from 4 to 6 pm here at Crossroads. We will bring materials and instructions on making special items for your shoebox. These projects are suitable for children and adults to make together. We will also give ideas for projects you can do throughout the year. Each box we send is an opportunity to share the Gospel with a child and their families. Help us spread the good news around the world by joining us for the craft party.
Events Team: If you love to plan events and connect with new people, we would love for you to join our team. We plan 3-4 church-wide events each year. Contact Tabitha at [email protected] to join us or with questions.
Meals Needed: Our Crossroads family also extends hospitality by preparing, ordering, and delivering meals. It really helps to have a meal delivered when families adjust to a new routine with a newborn, grieving the loss of a family member, or during a long illness or hospital stay. Sometimes a meal and a visit is just what someone needs. If you want to join this team, please email the church office at [email protected]. We need people to make meals and deliver meals, as well as people who are willing to order and send meals via DoorDash. Thank you so much for caring for our family in such a tangible and generous way.
Join Our Funeral Team: We seek caring and dedicated volunteers to join our Funeral Team. This team plays a vital role in supporting families during a difficult time by setting up, serving meals, and helping with cleanup after funeral services. If you have a heart for hospitality and want to serve others, we would love to have you as part of this ministry. For more information or to sign up, please contact the church office. Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve!
