Psalm 99 – Enthronement Psalms
Psalm 99
1 The Lord reigns,
let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let the earth shake.
2 Great is the Lord in Zion;
he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—
he is holy.
4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—
you have established equity;
in Jacob you have done
what is just and right.
5 Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his footstool;
he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel was among those who called on his name;
they called on the Lord
and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
8 Lord our God,
you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,
though you punished their misdeeds.[a]
9 Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his holy mountain,
for the Lord our God is holy.
Psalm 99 is one of the Enthronement Psalms – a claim to the world-wide honor of YAHWEH.
The central message is affirmation of God’s kingly reign over all things. When I read this Psalm I got the chills just thinking about how big/great/holy/awesome God truly is. When is the last time you sat back and for and just marveled at how great God is?? He made all of this, he is in charge of all of this, he speaks everything into existence, He is bigger than us, greater than us….bigger and greater than EVERYTHING. This Psalm tells us to worship the ALMIGHTY HOLY God – and simply that our response to HIS being God and ALL POWERFUL should only be to worship him. I just can’t help but to worship Him!
He is so much bigger than us and rules all things This is true… In His greatness comes in His love for us. He sent His son to die for us because He loves us. He paid the price of our sin because He loves us! and He LOVES us! He loves me! He knows your name, my name!
Shouldn’t that cause you to honor Him and worship Him in all that we do??
